Kerrisdale estate lawyers, in the neighbourhood

Our Kerrisdale office is at Suite 201, 5455 West Boulevard, in the shopping stretch around West 41st Avenue. This is where our west-side estate work is based, so Kerrisdale clients meet us in their own neighbourhood rather than downtown. The West Boulevard shops and street parking are right outside the door.

When a Kerrisdale resident dies, the estate is administered through the BC Supreme Court probate registry at the Vancouver Law Courts, 800 Smithe Street. We prepare the grant of probate application under the Wills, Estates and Succession Act and help executors inventory and distribute the estate. We also act on wills variation claims — the WESA provision that lets a spouse or an adult or minor child ask the court to change a will that fails to make adequate provision for them. The test the court applies is what a fair person in the will-maker’s position would have done, which is rarely as simple as splitting things evenly.
